# Create an Intent Audience

Intent Topics allow you to target potential clients across the internet, before they ever visit your website. Here's how to use the interface within your Untitled account.

The introduction of Intent Topics to the Untitled platform add a new dimension to audience building and targeting. Whereas the Website Visitor ID Tag provides deep insight into who is already on your website, Intent Audiences use an entirely different technology to identify *who* is looking at *what* across the internet, and then groups those people by their interests.&#x20;

For this guide, imagine your business offers guided mountain climbing adventures in Europe. You want to reach early- and mid-career couples who might want to join your next excursion.

### Describe or automatically find your audience keywords

From your Untitled homepage, click "Intent Topics" on the left hand menu. A new page will prompt you to start a new search for Intent Audiences, either by

• Describing the audience in natural language using sentences and paragraphs

• Entering your website URL, or that of a competitior or similar business

• Enter up to five keywords or key phrases

<figure><img src="https://312477262-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FGoQsfzqc7OhGHTIseEas%2Fuploads%2FFam8DVmZoKtaIWXi4Zqq%2Fremove%20beta%20Screenshot%202026-10-08%20at%209.09.44%E2%80%AFAM%20copy.png?alt=media&amp;token=700272ff-de89-4e16-ba90-effb7736949a" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Since your imagined use case targets consumers, not businesses, you might enter the keywords "Travel", "mountain climbing", "hiking", "European vacation", and "adventure" since you're trying to reach people who may be at the intersection of those interests.&#x20;

### Browse the resulting Intent Topics&#x20;

Your search will return multiple pages of topics along with their size, measured in interested people within the last 14 days. If you'd like to add or remove a keyword, you can search again. Using synonyms or different phrasing may return different results. Once the topics are a strong fit for your audience, click "Use Topics in Audience". You'll be able to combine any topics from your results, so you do not need to find a perfect fit as a single result.

<figure><img src="https://312477262-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FGoQsfzqc7OhGHTIseEas%2Fuploads%2FVwI7d6uwaBAbc7NMHnUZ%2Fbeta%20removed%20copy%20Screenshot%202026-10-08%20at%209.09.44%E2%80%AFAM%20copy.png?alt=media&amp;token=16b12a92-107b-40d0-90e8-b78b9c03c1b4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In our example, you can see that results span from concepts like "hiking" to branded terms like "REI Adventures". Experiment with brand names as well as categories to find a solid result set.

### Combine and overlay topics to build an Audience

After clicking "Use topics in audience", apply "AND" and "OR" filters to the topics. By checking the box next to topics in a single column, you are including people who are in *either* Intent Audience. By including topics in the second column, you are including people who are in *any* selected Audience from column 1 *and* *any* selected Audience from column 2. Adding more topics in a single column grows the audience by allowing for more interests. Adding a topic to the second column shrinks the audience by adding a second condition.

<figure><img src="https://312477262-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FGoQsfzqc7OhGHTIseEas%2Fuploads%2FkjJ9KzowtPjrdRoxPhhk%2FScreenshot%202026-10-08%20at%209.16.14%E2%80%AFAM.png?alt=media&amp;token=f5db47b0-8b4f-4b7d-a433-108bfc21292f" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Here, the Intent Audience includes people interested in:\
Column 1: Wilderness Travel or Adventure Cruises or Exodus Travels or Expedition Cruises

AND

Column 2: Climbing

This Audience will help your business reach people who are interested in climbing and adventure travel, but people who may not have thought about using their next vacation for a guided climb.

### Filter your audience on demographic and descriptive filters

After selecting the combination of topics, filter the Audience by other important qualifiers for your customers, like location, age or homeownership status. Drag the filters in a ranked order with the most important at the top; our system will automatically optimize the filters to maximize your audience size and filter fit.&#x20;

<figure><img src="https://312477262-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FGoQsfzqc7OhGHTIseEas%2Fuploads%2FTLBNhE1klgIPtOwrrgpz%2FScreenshot%202026-10-08%20at%209.17.07%E2%80%AFAM.png?alt=media&amp;token=17162f9c-f6a2-4d47-962c-61900881979b" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

In our example, your business wants to target married couples in their most active years. Note that the audience size decreased from 1.3M to 79,000 people. This step is where Audiences are honed: additional filters may include net worth or salary range here if the guided climbs are premium-priced and your advertising budget allows you to reach fewer than 79,000 people in two weeks.

### Select ad platforms and final audience sizes

In the final step, decide to which ad platforms you'd like to sync your Intent Audience. For each platform, determine how large you'd like the audience to be or calculate the reachable audience size based on your ad campaign details.

<figure><img src="https://312477262-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FGoQsfzqc7OhGHTIseEas%2Fuploads%2F5Ee1oZ9G0kQ5Ad4oJF2m%2FScreenshot%202026-10-08%20at%209.19.02%E2%80%AFAM.png?alt=media&amp;token=fb57419c-da50-49eb-a384-75d60bfd8184" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

If you intend to use the example audience for two weeks, spend $50 per day, and are typically able to purchase 1,000 impressions for $10 on Facebook, you only need 28,000 Intent Audience members.  You can adjust for each platform.&#x20;

### After you click 'submit request'

As of early October 2026, your request is routed directly to the Untitled team. We will check that your ad platforms are already connected to your Untitled account and then sync the Intent Audience. The Intent Audience will appear as a Custom Audience that you can select for your ad sets.&#x20;

### Best Practices

#### Use the smallest size audience that serves your budget

It's easy to think 'more is better' for Intent Audiences, but the best audience is one that you can affordably reach. Within an Intent Audience, each member has a 'relevancy score'. Untitled serves you the best audience members first, so requesting 25% of the audience results in the *best* 25% for your ads.

#### Think of audiences as combinations of interests

Intent Audiences become uniquely powerful when you combine a number of adjacent (or sometimes completely different!) interests to find your perfect customers. Think of the 'Venn Diagram' where your ideal prospect's interests are in the center overlap.&#x20;

#### Align the 'refresh' cadence with your customers' consideration period

By design, Intent Topics provide very recent data, dating back 14 days from the time that you request the audience. If your product or service has a short consideration period, as is the case with many low-cost, urgent, or impulsive purchases, then refresh your intent data up to four times per month. Products that are higher cost and longer-term consideration, like a vacation property, may only benefit from refreshing the audience once per quarter.&#x20;

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.getuntitled.ai/audience-studio/create-an-intent-audience.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
