Before You Begin
Log in to your Shopify Store at https://www.shopify.com/store-login.
You'll need the "Edit Code" permission for your Shopify site. If you're not the site owner, you can request the site owner to give you this permission at Settings > Users and permissions.

In this guide, we’ll walk through the steps to create your Untitled ID Tag and install it on your Shopify website. There are three main steps that we need to complete.
Turning on the cookie consent bar in your Shopify site.
Next, updating your privacy policy to include information about the Untitled ID Tag.
Updating the code of your Shopify site to include your Untitled tag. Let's start first within your Untitled account.
Create and Name Your Tag
Log in to Untitled and click Tags on the left hand side

Click Create Tag in the upper right corner and give your tag a descriptive name. Many of our customers just have one tag in their account, and you only need one tag per website, so in this case, we'll use the example "Untitled Shopify Site".

Update Your Shopify Cookie Consent Banner
It's important that your visitors consent to cookie collection and that you update your privacy policy to be compliant with the Untitled ID tag. After you click Continue when creating a new ID Tag, our pre-written privacy policy will open. Go ahead and right-click and copy that text now.

Open your Shopify Administrator page and scroll down on the left menu and select Settings. Now a search bar is available at the top left of the page. Search "Privacy" there and select Customer Privacy and then Cookie Banner in the main page.

Click the toggle to turn off the automated settings, and then click Edit in the Regions section. A new window will pop up.

Search for "United States" in the search bar and click next to the American flag to select all of the states. We recommend leaving "recommended regions" selected. Click Done.

Click Save at the top of your page within Shopify.

Update Your Shopify Privacy Policy
Your privacy policy should be updated with information about Untitled for your website visitors. You can learn more about that on our Privacy and Consent Management page and review or copy the Sample Privacy Policy.
If you're continuing from the previous step, click Privacy Policy in the left side menu. If you're starting at this step, open your Shopify Admin page and navigate to Settings and then search "Privacy" on that page and select Privacy Policy. A new window will pop up.

Turn off the toggle for "Use automated policy". Now you can edit your own privacy policy. We recommend adding a label to your privacy policy where you can paste the Untitled sample privacy policy into the rest of the content that Shopify provides.

Go back to your Untitled account and click the Copy button in the "Create Tag" window that is open. If that window is already closed, you can copy the Sample Privacy Policy on our site.

Return to your Shopify Privacy Policy page and paste the additions to your privacy policy, and click Save.

Return to your Untitled account and scroll down on the Create Tag window and confirm that you have set up your cookie consent and privacy policy appropriately. Click Create Tag. This window will close and a new window will pop up with your Untitled tag script.

Paste Your Untitled ID Tag in the Header of Your Site
After you have set up your cookie consent banner and updated the privacy policy on your Shopify site, you are ready to paste in the single line of Javascript code that will enable the Untitled tag to work. This line of code needs to be present on every page of your website, so you will paste it in the header of the theme of your Shopify site.
Select and copy the one line of code. Make sure to select and copy everything, including the < and > at the beginning and end of the line.

Return to your Shopify administration page. On the left side, click Online Store. Below that click Themes. Now on the main part of this page, click Customize. A new page will open.

At the top left of that page, look for three dots in a horizontal line. Click that, and then select Edit Code from the menu that opens.

On the left side menu, select theme.liquid. If the file isn't readily available, you can search for it using the search bar at the top of that menu. The theme.liquid code file will open in your browser. Find the word <head> and click enter to make a new, blank line below that.
Paste the Untitled tag code snippet there. Click Save in the upper right corner. That's it! Your Untitled ID Tag will start collecting visitor information for your website.

Next Steps
You can close your Shopify site and go back to your Untitled account and view the tag, but you don’t need to do anything else to make the tag start working for you.
After you've installed the ID Tag, allow up to one hour before your visitor data starts being captured by the tag. After that, the ID Tag will update about every 15 minutes with new visitors who have visited your site and are automatically resolved or identified by the Untitled ID Tag. Remember, not every visitor will show up in your visitor table, and if your site is brand new, it may take some time before many visitors appear in the table.
As you capture the email addresses, names, and other information of the visitors to your site, that's when you can start to do the exciting work of creating audiences, adding destinations, and using that customer data to reach out to the right people, at the right time, with the right offer and increase the effectiveness of your advertising.
Make sure to bookmark your Untitled account page in your web browser and return back to check on your visitor table at least a few days a week to watch your audience grow.
